Three Capital Murder Suspects In Custody Following North Birmingham Homicide Investigation

The Birmingham Police Department Crime Reduction Team has arrested 20-year-old Jonathan Hunter and 20-year-old Shandrea Battle, both of Birmingham, for Capital Murder in connection with the death of Shaneka Hicks.


The incident occurred on Saturday, February 14, 2026, in the 3100 block of 12th Avenue North. A second person was also injured during the shooting.

Jonathan Hunter and Shandrea Battle were taken into custody on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, near Interstate 59 North at the Ensley Avenue exit ramp.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, BPD coordinated with authorities in DeKalb County in Decatur, Georgia, where Aaron McGraw was arrested for Capital Murder in connection with this shooting incident. He will be held without bond and extradited back to Birmingham.

All suspects will be transported to the Jefferson County Jail and held on No Bond.
