SAD UPDATE: Body Recovered From Mississippi River Identified as 18-Year-Old Missing Woman

On February 16, 2026, barge workers discovered a body in the Mississippi River near Clement Road, south of Festus, Missouri. The remains were recovered and transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for identification.
The victim was identified as 18-year-old Wuaniata Gibson.
Gibson had been reported missing on December 22, 2025, after she was last seen in the 8800 block of Portland Terrace in St. Louis, Missouri. At the time of her disappearance, she was classified as an endangered missing person.
Authorities confirmed Wednesday that the body recovered from the river was Gibson. An investigation into the cause and manner of her death remains ongoing.
