Bellarmine Chatunga Mugabe, the son of the late former Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe, was arrested following a shooting at his luxury residence in the upscale Hyde Park suburb of Johannesburg. Video circulating online reportedly shows him being led away in handcuffs by police after hours of tense negotiations.

According to witnesses, the incident began around midday when a heated argument allegedly broke out between Mugabe and an employee at the multi-million-rand property. Authorities say the situation escalated, and Mugabe is accused of producing a firearm and shooting the staff member multiple times. The injured guard was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
Following the shooting, Mugabe reportedly barricaded himself inside a room and refused to surrender when officers from the South African Police Service arrived. Specialist negotiators were deployed to the scene, and after several hours of discussions, he was taken into custody without further incident.

Reports indicate that his mother, former Zimbabwean First Lady Grace Mugabe, has been informed of the situation but is unable to travel to South Africa due to an outstanding arrest warrant dating back to 2017.
Police in Gauteng confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing, and formal charges have not yet been publicly detailed. The case has drawn significant public attention due to the high-profile status of those involved.
