A deadly collision on the Arthur Laing Bridge earlier today claimed one life and led to significant traffic disruptions between Vancouver and Richmond, authorities report.

The incident occurred shortly before 4:30 p.m. local time on the southbound lanes of the bridge, which connects Vancouver International Airport (YVR) with the City of Richmond. According to witnesses, two vehicles collided under circumstances that remain under investigation, scattering debris across the roadway and prompting an immediate closure of the southbound lanes as police and paramedics responded.
Emergency responders attempted to save one occupant who sustained life-threatening injuries, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released as officials notify next of kin.
Several other people involved in the crash were taken to hospital with injuries reported as serious but non-life-threatening. Officials have not provided additional details about their condition.
The temporary closure caused heavy congestion on Highway 99 and surrounding routes during peak hours, with drivers advised to use alternate corridors. The bridge reopened later in the evening after crews cleared debris and investigators completed on-scene work.
The Richmond RCMP Traffic Section is leading the investigation, focusing on factors such as vehicle speed, weather, and operator error. Police are asking anyone with dashcam footage or information about the crash to come forward to aid the inquiry.
