Incident occurred on January 30, 2026, in the 6800 block of Hickory St NE.
Authorities recovered 9mm shell casings and observed bullet holes in a residence.
Phone data allegedly places Hassan near the scene despite his denial.
A co-defendant, Khalid Ibrahim Kosar, was also implicated in the investigation.
Details of the Incident
According to the criminal complaint, Fridley police responded to reports of a drive-by shooting in the 6800 block of Hickory St NE around 7:22 p.m. on January 30, 2026. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Chrysler, fire 6 to 10 rounds at a home before fleeing. Officers arrived to find bullet holes in the residence and two 9mm shell casings in the street. No injuries were reported.

Investigators spoke with a resident who indicated the shooting might be retaliation for a fight that occurred a month prior in Columbia Heights. The resident stated that he and friends had beaten up an individual known as “Ismail” or “Showtime” and took his shoes. The resident identified the suspect as Ismail Ali Hassan.

Police learned that Hassan had called Anoka County Dispatch after the shooting to request extra patrols at his own home, claiming he was concerned about being targeted. Detectives analyzed Hassan’s cell phone records, which allegedly showed his device traveling near the victim’s residence shortly before the shooting. The data indicated the phone was stationary nearby with no data usage during the exact time of the shooting, consistent with typical behavior of individuals attempting to avoid tracking during criminal activity.

The investigation also identified a co-defendant, Khalid Ibrahim Kosar, 18, of Fridley. Surveillance footage and records linked a vehicle associated with Kosar to the scene. During questioning, Kosar allegedly provided inconsistent statements regarding his whereabouts and claimed he and Hassan were at a gym, a claim investigators say was contradicted by access logs.

Court Proceedings
Hassan faces one felony count of Dangerous Weapons – Drive by shooting toward an occupied motor vehicle or building. Bail was set at $75,000 with conditions or $250,000 without conditions by Judge Suzanne Brown. The complaint was signed by Judge Dyanna Street.

Hassan remains in custody pending further legal proceedings. The charges carry a maximum sentence of 3 to 10 years imprisonment and/or fines up to $20,000.
