Police are investigating a shooting that took place Wednesday afternoon at the Woodbine Mall, triggering a lockdown and a heavy police response as authorities worked to secure the area.
Toronto police were dispatched to the plaza at approximately 3:31 p.m. after reports of gunfire. Officers quickly arrived on the scene, where a lockdown was initiated as a precaution while police searched for those involved. Toronto Paramedic Services was also on site assessing injuries.
In a subsequent update, officers confirmed they located a male victim in his 30s who had sustained gunshot-related injuries. He was transported to the hospital in life-threatening condition, police said.
Authorities reported that the suspect or suspects fled the scene in a vehicle prior to police arrival. A significant law enforcement presence remained in the area for several hours as officers canvassed the scene, interviewed witnesses, and reviewed surveillance footage from the plaza and surrounding area.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or who has relevant information, video, or dashcam footage to come forward as the investigation continues.
