CHICAGO, Ill. — A woman has been killed in a Friday morning shooting inside a West Ridge home, leaving coworkers and the community in mourning. Authorities identified the victim as 36-year-old Da’j Flowers, an employee of the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications (OEMC).
Police say officers responded around 9:15 a.m. to the 6900 block of North Bell Avenue after reports of gunfire. Inside the residence, Flowers was found unresponsive with at least one gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators have not released details about a suspect or motive, and it remains unclear whether the shooting was targeted or domestic in nature. Detectives are canvassing the neighborhood, reviewing surveillance footage, and interviewing potential witnesses as the investigation continues.
Flowers’ death has deeply impacted city employees and first responders who worked alongside her. OEMC colleagues described her as dedicated and compassionate, someone who played a critical role behind the scenes in coordinating emergency responses across Chicago.
To aid the investigation, Cook County Crime Stoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
The case remains active as police work to bring answers—and justice—to Flowers’ family and loved ones.
