It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the untimely passing of Jack Hite, a man whose life was defined by service, faith, and an unwavering commitment to others. Jack was more than a name known around Raymond and Hinds County—he was a pillar of the community, a steady presence in times of need, and a friend to countless lives he touched along the way.
Jack proudly served the Raymond Fire Department for approximately 32 years, dedicating decades of his life to protecting and serving his community. During his long and distinguished tenure, he fulfilled many vital roles, including Secretary, Treasurer, and Captain, always stepping up wherever he was needed. His leadership, dependability, and calm spirit earned the respect of fellow firefighters and the gratitude of those he served. He wasn’t just a firefighter—he was a mentor, a problem-solver, and someone others could always count on.
Beyond the fire service, Jack was also the longest-serving current employee of Hinds Community College, where he devoted an incredible 45 years of service. His impact there cannot be measured in years alone, but in the relationships he built, the guidance he offered, and the countless individuals he helped along the way. If you were familiar with Raymond or Hinds, chances are you knew Jack—and more than likely, he helped you at some point, often without expecting recognition or praise.
Jack lived a life of many callings. He served as a firefighter, policeman, counselor, preacher, husband, father, and so much more. Each role he filled was carried out with humility, compassion, and a sincere desire to make life better for others. Yet, above all titles and responsibilities, the most important role Jack held was that of a Christian. His faith was not just something he spoke about—it was something he lived daily, reflected in his kindness, his patience, and his servant’s heart.
While our hearts ache at his loss, we take comfort in knowing that Jack’s journey here has ended only to begin anew. His life was one of purpose and devotion, and we are confident that he has heard the words he lived by: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” One day, we will be reunited with him, and until then, his legacy will continue to live on through the many lives he shaped.
Rest in peace, Jack. Your work here is done. You will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever honored.
