A Louisiana man will spend the rest of his life behind bars after being sentenced for a deadly gas station shooting that claimed the life of a father.
Marrio Haynes Jr., 27, was sentenced to life in prison plus an additional 60 years following his conviction in connection with the December 2023 killing. A jury found Haynes guilty last month of second-degree murder, obstruction of justice, and illegal possession of a firearm.
Prosecutors said the violence stemmed from an earlier argument between Haynes and the victim’s sister. Rather than letting the dispute end, authorities say Haynes lay in wait and ambushed the victim at a gas station, opening fire and killing him. Investigators described the attack as deliberate and targeted.
The victim, a father whose death devastated his family, was pronounced dead at the scene. During the trial, prosecutors emphasized the calculated nature of the shooting and Haynes’ actions after the crime, which led to the obstruction charge.
At sentencing, the court imposed the maximum penalties allowed, ensuring Haynes will never be eligible for release. Family members of the victim expressed relief that justice was served, while also acknowledging that no sentence can undo the loss.
The case stands as a stark reminder of how quickly disputes can escalate into irreversible violence, leaving families forever changed.
