It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of Valentin “Val” Hunsicker, a dedicated firefighter, EMT, and beloved member of both the Milford Fire Department and the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad. Val, who had deep roots in Sparta, New Jersey, and Lake Hopatcong, New Jersey, was a selfless and courageous first responder who touched the lives of many through his service to the community.
Val became an EMT while serving with the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad, where he was known for his kindness, work ethic, and commitment to helping others. Although he later moved to Milford, Pennsylvania, Val continued to serve the Hopatcong community, often returning to pick up shifts to lend a helping hand. His dedication to his role as a first responder never wavered, even as he transitioned to a new home and life in Pennsylvania.
In Milford, Val expanded his service, becoming a firefighter with the Milford Fire Department. His contributions to the department and the community were immeasurable. The loss of Val is felt deeply by his fellow first responders, as evidenced by heartfelt tributes from both the Hopatcong Ambulance Squad and the Matamoras Fire Department Station 32.
The Hopatcong Ambulance Squad shared, “This morning our team was saddened to learn of the loss of one of our members, Valentin Hunsicker. Val had become an EMT while at Hopatcong, and even though he moved out to Milford, PA, he would return to pick up shifts with us to help out. After moving to PA, he also became a firefighter. Our hearts go out to his family and the Milford Fire Team. May he rest in peace. We will take it from here, brother.”
The Matamoras Fire Department Station 32 expressed their support for the Milford Fire Department, stating, “We stand with our brothers and sisters of the Milford Fire Department as they grieve the loss of member Valentin Hunsicker. May his family and friends find some peace in knowing what a dedicated member of the department he was and how well he served his community. May he rest in peace.”
