Officers were called shortly before 8 p.m. on Feb. 4 to the area of 6th Avenue and 60th Street after reports of gunfire. When authorities arrived, they found three young people suffering from gunshot wounds. Police confirmed that a 16-year-old died at the scene. A 15-year-old and a 19-year-old were transported for medical treatment, with one of the victims reported to be in critical condition.

The Kenosha Unified School District later notified families that the student who lost their life attended Bradford High School. The two injured individuals were identified as students from Indian Trail High School and Academy. District officials said the incident has deeply affected students and staff across the community.

In a letter sent to families, Superintendent Jeff Weiss expressed sympathy for those impacted and encouraged students to seek support during a difficult time. “Our hearts and thoughts are with the families directly impacted by this tragedy,” the letter stated, adding that counseling resources would be available at school offices for anyone needing assistance. The message also emphasized the importance of community awareness and encouraged families to use anonymous reporting systems if they have safety concerns.

Police said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the broader public. However, as a precaution, the district announced an enhanced police presence at the affected schools on Thursday to help students and staff feel safe as they return to class.

As investigators worked through the evening, authorities learned that several possible suspects may have fled into a nearby home. Officers responded to the residence and took a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man into custody. Both individuals are being held in secure detention facilities while the investigation continues. No additional details about potential charges have been released.
