Smithtown Accident:- Early Thursday morning at approximately 1:48 a.m., a serious single-vehicle crash occurred on Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown, drawing a significant emergency response and resulting in major traffic disruptions.
According to a report from Smithtown Patch, a Chevrolet Cruze traveling westbound near Terry Road left the roadway for reasons still under investigation. The vehicle struck a brick light column located in front of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, then overturned and ultimately collided with a tree.
The woman driving the vehicle sustained serious injuries in the crash. She was treated at the scene by first responders and transported by a Smithtown Fire Department ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital for further medical care.
Due to the severity of the incident and the amount of debris scattered across the roadway, police closed the affected section of Jericho Turnpike for several hours while investigators examined the scene and crews worked to clear the area safely.
Authorities have not released the driver’s name, noting it would be withheld until her family was properly notified. The vehicle was also impounded so officials could conduct a full safety inspection as part of the ongoing investigation.
At this stage, the cause of the crash has not been determined. Investigators will consider several possibilities, including driver fatigue, distraction, or impairment. They will also examine whether mechanical failure or hazardous road conditions played a role.
Under New York law, individuals who suffer serious injuries in car accidents may be entitled to pursue compensation if another party is found to be at fault. Serious injuries are defined by statute and include conditions such as fractures, permanent loss of bodily function, significant disfigurement, or injuries that prevent normal daily activities for an extended period.
Anyone seriously injured in a motor vehicle accident should consider speaking with an experienced personal injury attorney. A legal consultation can help clarify rights, determine potential liability, and explain available options for recovery under the law.
