LEXINGTON, Ky. — New details have been released following an officer-involved shooting that occurred during a traffic stop attempt in Lexington, according to police.
Lexington Police say officers received information about an individual believed to have outstanding felony warrants out of North Carolina, including kidnapping, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the intersection of Alumni Drive and Yellowstone Parkway.
During the attempted stop, circumstances escalated and three Lexington police officers discharged their firearms, striking the man. Authorities have not released details about what occurred immediately before shots were fired or whether the suspect was armed.
Kentucky State Police (KSP) confirmed the man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains in critical condition. No officers were reported injured during the incident.
As is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings, Kentucky State Police have assumed control of the investigation to ensure an independent review. The officers involved have been placed on administrative status pending the outcome of the investigation.
The suspect’s identity has not been released, and officials say additional information will be provided as the investigation continues.
