Jeremy and Rebecca Curry’s son was airlifted Monday morning after suffering a spinal injury and a fractured elbow from a sledding accident at Lake Wichita Park, marking a sharp turn from a fun day to a traumatic experience.
Jeremy and Rebecca Curry emphasized the seriousness of the accident, expressing regret for going out for snow-related activities.
Curry recounted his son’s sledding accident that resulted in significant injuries.
“I definitely regret even driving over there,” Jeremy said, reflecting on the family’s traumatic experience during what was initially a fun outing.
His son had been sitting flat on the sled when, halfway down the hill, he was thrown into the air, leading to his injuries after landing on a branch.
The Currys faced difficulties during the transfer to Cook’s, as they were advised against transporting their son themselves due to the seriousness of his spinal injury.
“I said, ‘Well, I’ll load him into my truck, and I’ll take him myself.’ They said, ‘No, we can’t do that because he has a spinal injury,’” Jeremy explained.
Curry indicated that surgery for his son was scheduled to happen before 7 p.m., Monday, January 26, as they awaited further medical attention.
